Location:
Sams Valley Vineyard is located on the Old McDonough Farm that has
been farmed over 100 years. The farm was traditionally a hay and beef ranch and was bought by the
Garvin's in the mid 80's. In 2000 the first planting of vines took place and it is now a 66 acre vineyard, in addition to hay and alfalfa fields. The Garvin's
have added a large pond to back up the valley's water supply and to water the large elk heard, deer and wildlife that run through the farm.
Wine History:
Sams Valley is an unincorporated community in Jackson County, Oregon, United States, on Oregon Route 234 northeast of Gold Hill, in the Medford area.
Originally named "Moonville",the community takes its name from a valley that was named for Chief Sam of the Rogue River tribe of Native Americans.[2] Sams
Valley post office ran from 1873 until 1953.Today residents consider the communities of Beagle, Antioch and Table Rock part of Sams Valley.
Climate:
Sams Valley has a moderate climate that generally enjoys a warm, dry (just 25.2 inches of annual rain) growing season with hot days and cool nights perfect
for warm-climate varieties.
Soils:
Sams Valley soil types are typically granite in origin, and most of the area's vineyards are planted on stream terraces or alluvial fans, providing deep,
well-drained soils that are ideal for high-quality wine grapes.
