Winery
Lia Piazza is an export brand of Cantine Calatrasi.  Giuseppe and Maurizio Miccichè founded in 1980 an international wine-making company, Casa Vinicola Calatrasi.  Their purpose was to produce premium wines made from grapes grown in their estates and under precise monitoring of their control.

In 2005, after adopting a policy of significant investments in advanced technologies, Calatrasi increased their distribution to 25 countries all over the world and becoming one of the most important wineries in Sicily.

The winery is situated in San Cipirello in the heart of Jato Valley, 30 km south from Palermo.  The establishment of 25000 sqm includes a bottling plant of 12000 bottles per hour and barrel room with 4000 French and US barrels.

The family estates in Sicily are located in Campofiorito (274 ha, near Corleone), Ginestra (100 ha between San Cipirello and Piana degli Albanesi) and Mazara (150 ha).

Winemaker
Piergiorgio Berta is the chief Winemaker. He was born in Piemonte in 1964, graduated in 1984 as Enologist, he is responsible for all procedures of winemaking starting from grape intake to bottling of wines.

Maria Carella is the assistant winemaker.   She was born in Palermo in the 1975, she’s graduated in Agricolture Science at the University of Palermo and after the Master in “Managment of Wine System” at the University of Milan.  In 2004, she became the assistant Wine Maker of Calatrasi Winery

Thanks to its international high-skilled staff of agronomists and oenologist, Calatrasi is the leader of a new wine-making culture, mixing the ancient traditions of the South of Italy with advanced technologies and new flavors

Vineyards

Apuglia:
In the leveled and sunny vineyards of the Salento area, Calatrasi cultivates the best selection of Primitivo and Negroamaro that are the indigenous varietals of Puglia.  The high quality of these grapes allows Calatrasi to produce important wines, with a typical deep purple color, rich in flavor and with a complex structure. The wines of Puglia go well with red meat and game.

Sicily:  From the hot vineyards of Sicily, wines of intense and rich perfume are grown, with a complex structure and long persistent finish.  The white wines have powerful citrus fruit and floral notes on the nose typical of the grapes of Catarratto, Grillo, Viognier and Chardonnay.
