Camelback Vineyards Wines
Winery
Camelback Vineyards is the export label of Galli Estates Vineyard. Galli Estate vineyard was established in 1997 by Lorenzo
and his wife Pamela, and occupies 100 acres at Rockbank in the renowned Sunbury Wine Region of Victoria. The vineyard is close to the city of Melbourne, just 30
minutes away, and is planted predominantly with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition there is Pinot Noir and the exciting Pinot Grigio as well as smaller
blocks of Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. With its rich, red volcanic soil, attention to detail in vine management and low yield, the estate
is focused on producing premium quality wines.
In the last five years Galli Estate has been awarded 3 Trophies, 11 Gold Medals, and 23 Silver Medals at wine
shows throughout Australia and New Zealand. You can read what renowned Australian wine writer James Halliday has to say about Galli Estate
here.
Winemaker
Stephen Phillips joined Galli Estate in late 2001 for the 2002
vintage and is its first full-time winemaker. He graduated from Roseworthy in 1992 and has previous winemaking experience in the Hunter Valley and, just prior
to joining Galli Estate, with Coldstream Hills in the Yarra Valley. Steve has also worked in Europe, completing vintages in France, Hungary and Bulgaria, as
well in other premium Australian wine regions such as Coonawarra, Margaret River, Mount Barker and Mornington.
Rockbank Vineyards
Situated just to the north west of Melbourne, the region offers a generally cool climate with a relatively
cool and dry growing season. .The Galli Estate at Rockbank features rich red volcanic soil over clay loam, interspersed with rocky outcrops. Planting commenced
in 1997 and the vineyard is predominantly planted to Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. There are smaller blocks of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc,
Semillon, Merlot and Pinot Grigio.
Heathcoate Vineyards
Located in Central Victoria about 100 kms north of Melbourne, the Heathcote wine region is classified as warm and rainfall is limited. The growing season is
warm and dry with relatively even temperature ranges during the ripening season Vine planting commenced in 2000 at Galli Estate's "Camelback" vineyard,
situated north east of the Heathcote township, and totals 250 acres. In keeping with the region's demonstrated specialty, the property is planted predominantly
with Shiraz, and also features Cabernet Sauvignon. There are also significant plantings of lesser known varieties with exciting potential for this region,
specifically Sangiovese, Tempranillo, and Viognier. |
